Frequently Asked
Do I need to have health insurance to be seen by Dr Buckland?
Emma can see both insured and uninsured patients in the rooms so long as they have a referral from their family doctor. Insurance is important if you are needing admission to hospital as it pays for your costs to go to SJOG. If you don’t have insurance you can pay out of pocket to go to SJOG (about $13000 to have a baby or about $2000 for day surgery) or I can write a letter for you to be seen at the Bendigo Hospital, but you will be cared for by the doctors on duty rather than by Emma whilst you are there.
What areas of gynaecology does Emma practice?
Emma does not do colposcopy, the follow up of abnormal pap smears. The other gynaecologists she shares rooms with do this very well. She is also not currently doing much laparoscopic surgery and tends to refer patients who will need complex keyhole surgery for endometriosis to her coleagues
Do you work at the Bendigo Hospital?
At the moment I am on extended leave from my public position at Bendigo Health, to allow more time for me to look after my family. I am still able to use Bendigo Health’s facilities if needed, for example if delivering a premature baby that will need the larger nursery available there.
Does Emma practice gynaecology?
At the moment Emma is very busy with caring for her pregnant ladies and it can take some time to get an appointment with her for a gynaecological issue. She is happy to see patients she has previously cared for, but finds that most new patients have been seen by one of the other gynaecologists in town by the time they get an appointment to see her.
